Starting today, the World Orphan Drug Congress (WODC) will be held in Barcelona for four days. The WODC is the largest global event focused on orphan drugs and rare diseases. For the occasion, JOIN4ATMP partner Silvia Martín Lluesma from VHIO and Johan Van Eldere from KUL will be among the panellists of the session “Join together to optimize ATMP development pathways in the EU”, taking place on Friday October 25th, at 1.30pm. The session will bring together other specialists in the field of rare diseases, and will be moderated by project partner Matt Bolz-Johnson from Eurordis.

This session will focus on the threats and opportunities of new development pathways for ATMPs in Europe, and how they can address current gaps in healthcare for rare diseases. To meet this challenge, increased collaboration between academic and commercial developers represents an opportunity to leverage the expertise and know-how of each stakeholder in these fields. The JOIN4ATMP project will be showcased for its capacity to answer these needs and gather relevant actors around ATMP development. Throughout the different presentations, the session will tackle these points:

  • Define regulatory and operational obstacles that affect ATMP development
  • Chart solutions to accelerate development pathways for ATMPs
  • Showcase the JOIN4ATMP project as an opportunity to respond existing challenges and a collaboration launch pad for ATMP stakeholders

In addition, a poster highlighting the needs and opportunities of ATMP development in Europe, with a focus on rare genetic diseases, will be presented by project partner Erica di Pasquale, from FTELE.
