JOIN4ATMP 1st Annual Meeting: Advancing ATMP Access Together
Our two-day gathering in Milan has wrapped up, leaving us energized and inspired. The event brought together an incredible group of partners who aren’t just collaborating—they’re genuinely excited to join forces and tackle the challenges of improving access to ATMPs across Europe.

Day 1: Reflecting on Progresses and Next Steps
The first day was dedicated to the JOIN4ATMP Annual Meeting, where partners shared updates on the project’s progress and engaged in lively discussions on key achievements and critical challenges in clinical, economic, and regulatory frameworks. Key highlights of the day were the workshop sessions, where partners worked in small groups and in an interactive way to explore the major challenges and align tasks across various work packages. The discussions centred on ATMP access hurdles mapping, real-world use cases defined, and concrete steps to move forward in the project. Additionally, the consortium began strategizing for the future. Discussions identified pathways to ensure long-term sustainability, with an emphasis on strengthening stakeholder engagement for lasting impact.

Day 2: A Broader Conversation at the EUHA Symposium
The second day of the gathering coincided with the European University Hospital Alliance (EUHA) Symposium, hosted by Ospedale San Raffaele and Libera Università Vita-Salute San Raffaele (UNISR). This collaboration expanded the conversation to include a broader audience of policymakers, academics, and regulatory experts. The panel discussions, chaired by our partner Alessandro Aiuti and Chiara Bonini (UNISR), and Johan Johan Van Eldere (UK Leuven), explored the ATMP landscape from multiple perspectives. From JOIN4ATMP consortium, Reno Debets from Erasmus MC provided an insightful look at ATMP manufacturing in academic settings, highlighting both the challenges and opportunities in this space. Thoughtful contributions from other panelists emphasized the need to align policies and streamline regulatory frameworks to create a more supportive environment for ATMP innovation. The symposium also provided an important moment for JOIN4ATMP to step into the spotlight. Annette Künkele, our project coordinator from Charité, presented how JOIN4ATMP is working to tackle barriers and create practical solutions to improve ATMP access. Her presentation underscored the importance of collaboration across sectors to bring advanced therapies closer to patients.

Looking Ahead
These two days were a powerful reminder of the strength of collaboration. The energy and commitment from everyone involved reflect a shared belief in the potential of JOIN4ATMPs to building bridges between stakeholders and transform healthcare across Europe.
